Happy New Year 2013 / Feliz Año 2013

Looking back on the NM New Year’s Resolutions, I realized we have achieved most of them! Revisando las metas para el 2012, me di cuenta que ¡hemos cumplido con casi todas!

 

2012 Goals – Metas 2012

 

· Set up the new Artisan Workshop/ Lab in collaboration with the local town hall. Acheived! Poner en marcha el nuevo taller artesano / laboratorio en colaboración con el ayuntamiento del pueblo.     ¡Cumplido!

 

· Get a proper Website set up, separate from the blog. Acheived!  Conseguir una página web mejor, separado del blog.  ¡Cumplido!

 

· Get all data into the new Soap Maker program http://www.soapmaker.ca/ and begin using it, in order to keep administration simple and organized.  Acheived!  However I have not been working with it much this year… As it seemed to be taking up a lot of my time instead of freeing me up. I may get back into it, as I have it now.  Meter todos los datos into nuestro programa nuevo “Soap Maker” y empezar usarlo, para mantener la administración más sencilla y organizada.  ¡ Cumplido!   Sin embargo, no lo estoy usado mucho este año… porque parecía quitarme tiempo en lugar de facilitarlo.  Posiblemente intento de nuevo.

 

· Create 3 great new products (or more, but at least 3). Acheived! Crear 3 nuevos productos fabulosos (o más, pero por lo menos 3)  ¡Cumplido!

 

· Study Aromatherapy further, possibly take a course. Pending…  Although I have continued to study and experiment with essential oils on my own, I have not taken a formal course this year.  Estudiar Aromaterapia más, posiblemente tomar un curso.     PENDIENTE… Aunque he seguido estudiar y experimentar por mi cuenta con aceites esenciales, no he tomado un curso formal este año.

 

· Organize a get together of soap makers here in the area, most likely at the end of May. Not done. I decided to focus my energy elsewhere.    No hecho. Organizar una reunion de jaboneros aqui en la zona, probablemente al final de mayo.  No cumplido.  He decidido al final enfocarme en otras cosas.

 

 

· Learn more about photography and get GREAT photos of all products. Achieved but ongoing! I think my photography has improved, however still a LOT more to learn. I got a great camera this year which helps.  Aprender más sobre la fotografía y tomar fotos muy buenos de todos los productos.  ¡Cumplido pero continuando!  Creo que mis fotos han mejorado, pero todavía hay mucho por aprender.  Conseguí una cámara muy buena este año que me ha ayudado.

 

· Find more local suppliers so I have to import less. Acheived but ongoing!  Still always looking for more…   Encontrar mas proveedores de España para que tenga que importer menos. ¡Cumplido pero continuando! Siempre estoy buscando más…

 

· Develop some products for a new Olive Oil mill that wants to collaborate. Acheived!  Desaroyar algunos productos para una Almazara nueva que quiere colaborar.  ¡Cumplido!

 

· Set up some new wholesale accounts. Acheived!  Conseguir algunos nuevos clientes mayoristas.  ¡Cumplido!

 

· Improve current equipment (for example get some great tray carts for soap drying racks…). Acheived but ongoing! Got shelves for drying racks, lots of them and they work, but I still long for those beautiful tray carts.  Mejorar el equipamiento actual (por ejemplo conseguir carros bandejeros para el secado de los jabones…)   ¡Cumplido pero continuando!  Ahora tengo lejas para secar los jabones y muchas pero siempre con las ganas de esas carros bandejeros preciosos…

 

 

So all in all, we achieved most of Naturalmente Mediterraneo's 2012 goals and are ready to set some for 2013.

En resumen, hemos cumplido con casi todas las metas de Naturalmente Mediterráneo para el 2012 y es hora de fijar alunas para el 2013. 

 

·         Continue to improve my photography.  Continuar mejorando mi fotografía.

 

·         Create another 3 great new products.  Crear otros 3 nuevos productos fantasticos.

 

·         Continue to find more local suppliers. Continuar buscando y encontrando nuevos proveedores locales.

 

·         Get tin packaging printed in larger quantities and on proper paper.  Mandar imprimir las etiquetas de nuestros botes en mayores cantidades y mejor papel.

 

·         Release our natural liquid soap and moisturizing facial serums. Empezar comercializar el jabón liquido natural y los sérums faciales.

 

·         Find 10 (or more!) new re-sellers (can be people, shops or suppliers who I make products for).  Encontrar 10 (¡o más!) nuevos re-vendedores (pueden ser personas, tiendas o proveedores y creo productos para ellos).

 

·         Improve internet sales, stay more on top of on-line networking – newsletter, blog, pinterest, facebook. Post regularly.  Mejor las ventas por internet.  Publicar más a menudo en facebook, el blog, pinterest y la hoja informativa.

 

·         Create a new solution for hotels/ retreats and sell my products to at least 3 new hotels.  Crear una nueva solución para los hoteles/ retiro y vender mis productos a por lo menos 3.

 

·         Investigate and study 3 skin-loving ingredients that I have not worked with yet.   Incorporate them into new products.   Investigar y estudiar 3 nuevos ingredientes, muy buenos para la piel.  Usarlos en nuevos productos.

 

·         Attend more larger trade fairs, one of those possibly being BioCultura in Madrid.  Asistir a mas Ferias de Muestra, y que una posiblemente puede ser Bio-Cultura en Madrid.

 

I hope that 2013 is a wonderful and full of adventure as was 2012 for Naturalmente Mediterraneo and for all of you.  Espero que el 2013 es tan maravilloso y lleno de aventura como el 2012 para Naturalmente Mediterráneo y para todos vosotros.

New Soap Packaging / Nuevo Epaquetaje para el Jabón

 

Here is a sneak peak at our new soap packaging. We are moving away from paper packaging. Each soap from now on will go inside a re-usable, locally made, 100% cotton-canvas bag. Aqui les presento unas fotos de nuestro nuevo empaquetaje de jabón. Cada jabón irá en una bolsa de 100% algodón-lienzo, hecho a mano aquí en la zona, que se puede re-usar.

As for as a mission statement for Naturalmente Mediterraneo, although I haven’t shaped it into 1 simple sentence yet, my focus is very clear:

1)    To love what I do

2)   To make people feel fabulous, with soap and skincare products made from only natural ingredients

3)   To use as many local ingredients as possible and support the local economy

Con respecto a una Declaración de Misión para Naturalmente Mediterráneo, aunque no lo tengo en una frase sencilla todavía, mi enfoque está bastante claro:

1)   Encantar lo que hago

2)  Hacer sentir maravilloso a la gente, con jabón y productos para la piel hechos con solamente ingredientes naturales

3)  Usar ingredientes de aquí de la zona y apoyar a la economía local

In line with our focus, packaging was becoming a burden, which was moving me away from #1 - Love what I do, so I knew we had to adapt something. We came up with the bags and I have been on fire, passionately researching, searching, designing and creating them from the moment the idea hit. It just feels right.

Con este enfoque, el empaquetaje nos estaba haciendo mas y mas una carga, desviandome del enfoque Nº1 – Encantar lo que hago, asi que sabia que era hora de adaptar algo. Desde el momento de que se nos ocurrió las bolsas, me apasionó la idea y he estado investigado, buscando material y diseñándolas.

We are getting the material locally, a local seamstress is sewing the bags for us, and the print shop who is applying our logo is less than a 2 minutes’ walk from the studio – supporting local business and providing work here. I am feeling fabulous about the packaging change.

Conseguimos la tela aqui, una costurera nos hace las bolsas y se están imprimiendo cerquita también, a menos de 2 minutos del taller – apoyando los negocios aquí en nuestra zona. Me siento fenomenal con el cambio de empaquetaje.

The only thing that may still change is the label at the top, specifying the soap type… We are still playing with this label. Lo único que puede cambiar todavía es la etiqueta arriba, especificando cada tipo de jabón…. Estamos todavía jugando y probando diferentes diseños de esta.

Wine Soap / Jabón de Vino

 

 

I have been experimenting with making a nourishing and moisturizing soap with an amazing local red wine for Bodegas Perfer. He estado experimentando con la elaboración un jabón nutritivo y hidratante de vino tinto maravilloso de una Bodega de esta zona – Bodegas Perfer.

 

 

 

No matter what Essential Oil blend I use for the scent, I can still detect the wonderful natural wine scent coming through... Con cualquier mezcla de aceites esenciales que uso para el aroma, sigue oliendo con un toque fabuloso de vino tinto…

 

 

Aside from red wine, this soap has been made with local organic extra-virgen olive oil, sweet almond oil, organic shea butter, argan oil, coconut oil, castor oil and essential oils of lavender, cedarwood and ylang ylang. Aparte del vino tinto, este jabón se ha elaborado con aceite de oliva extra-virgen y ecológico, aceite de almendras dulces, manteca de karité ecológica, aceite de argán, aceite de coco, aceite de ricino y aceites esenciales de lavanda, cedro y ylang ylang…

 

 

Facial Masks / Mascarillas

Facial masks with a mix of natural ingredients such as clays, oats, yoghurt powder etc. and essential oils for your skin - a cleansing one for oilier skins and a moisturizing facial mask for normal to drier skin. Mascarillas con ingredients naturales tales como arcillas, avena, yogúr etc. y aceites esenciales para tu piel – uno, limpiador, para pieles más grasas y otro, hidratante, para pieles normales a secas.

You mix a spoonful of the mask powder with liquid and apply it to your face for 10 to 15 minutes. A variety of different liquids can be used: aloe vera… milk… yogurt… egg…  lemon juice… mashed avocado… My personal favourite in the depths of the dry winter here is a combination of olive oil, egg yolk and honey. Se mezcla una cucharada del polvo de la mascarilla con liquido y se pone en la cara para 10 a 15 minutes. Se puede usar una variedad de diferentes líquidos: aloe vera… leche… yogúr… huevo… zumo de limón… aguacate… Mi preferido en pleno invierno seco aquí es una mezcla de aceite de oliva, yema de huevo y miel.
